PIT STOP PLOWSHARES In the early morning of February 3, five peace workers affiliated with the Catholic worker in Dublin, Ireland-Diedre Clancy, Karen Falton, Damien Moran, Nuin Dunlop and Cairon O'Reily - cut through a fence and made their way onto the runway at Shannon Airport. They poured their own blood on the Runway servicing US military flights and deployments to US military bases in Kuwait and Qatar and, there on the runway, constructed a shrine to Iraqi children killed and threatened by US and British Bombardment and sanctions. The shrine consisted of copies of the Bible and Quran, a rosary, Muslim prayer beads, flowers, photos of Iraqi children and St. Brigid crosses. they also took up part of the runway with a mallet. The five then approached a hanger housing the same plane Mary Kelly had hammered in January. While some painted "Pit Stop of Death" on the hanger's roller door and began the dismantling of the hanger, the others entered the hanger to disarm the repaired US warplane. The five were arrested by police and charged with two counts of criminal damage. They noncooperated with bail conditions and once in prison, began a fast calling for mass resistance to Irish complicity in the war against Iraq. Upon release they were banned from County Clare. Their Trail date is still to be set.
